LMS as a Strategy vs. a Tool

As far as Learning Management Systems (LMS) are concerned, there are two groups of people: those that look at LMS as a tool to help their organization and those that see LMS as a preferred strategy to achieving certain goals. There’s no doubt that both are valid views.

Naturally, it depends on what part of learning management you are more engaged with. This is because the basic features of an LMS can be used in many ways. And to put things simply, you view LMS as a tool when you already have a working plan that simply needs implementation, while you see it as a strategy when you will rely on LMS as the plan itself.

For example, if you’re part of an organization that primarily aims to sell a wide variety of courses on, you will most likely be looking at Joomla LMS as a tool. They will be focusing the value of features like the online payment plugins, course creation, and navigation features like jump buttons to help promote as many courses as possible.

On the other hand, if you’re setting up a Joomla website for specialized training, (i.e. workplace). If so, you might want to consider using Joomla LMS as a teaching strategy. This means maximizing course tracking, gradual lesson distribution, teacher interface, as well as many other features that facilitate learning.

Either perspective is useful depending on the situation. Make sure you know what role Joomla LMSs plays in your plans so you know which features to look into.
